Covered Riding Arena

Iowa State Fair

Des Moines, Iowa

The Covered Riding Arena on the grounds of the Iowa State Fair was relocated from a site just west of the existing horse barn.  The building was originally included in an overall facility master plan as were several other improvements in the eastern portion of the grounds.  The creation of this facility is supported by a stalling building and an open-air warm-up arena.  The new and relocated facilities will support an ever-growing year-round equine presence at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The relocated building elements include the steel super structure and its associated accessories.  The relocated steel columns are supported on new concrete piers and foundations.  A new metal roof and lighting system were installed, and the entire structure was given a fresh coat of paint.  A new fencing system and seating were also part of this project.
