Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days Master Planning

Walla Walla Fairgrounds

Walla Walla, Washington

The Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days grounds is known as a regional destination grounds for the southeast Washington, northeast Oregon and western Idaho areas. The site is dominated by a large track that goes essentially unused except for partial use during an occasional rodeo or demolition derby during fair time and year-round as an off track pari-mutuel betting site for other venues.

The plan focuses on restoring the existing infrastructure and maximizing the efficiency of the grounds as the track is slowly phased out of use. The grounds possess a beautiful round topped pavilion that underwent a multi-phased restoration and an arena building that is to double in size as a result of the final plan. Challenges were posed with the sizeable parcel of land south the grounds that is physically separated by an industrial road – possible remedies included utilizing frequent shuttles during events and the creation of an under road passageway.
